Pulling Out the Words is a video of five monologues with the words edited out, leaving only hand and arm gestures accompanied by breathing, stutters, ums, smiles, or silence.
Removed from their original content, these isolated hand movements fail to communicate specific meaning and point to the imprecision of language. Normally gone unnoticed, such movements reveal a vital link between gestures and thought. At times, it seems, we need our hands to pull the words out of our mouths.
