More is a public artwork that pays tribute to Chicago-based interdisciplinary writer Amy Krouse Rosenthal.  Commissioned by Jason Rosenthal, the artwork consists of a large-scale yellow umbrella, situated upright at eight feet above the ground. There is a metal framework that holds semi-transparent architectural glass panels which allow light to project through the glass. My primary contribution to the project is the architectural glass, derived from photographs I took of yellow flowers that bloom in the garden where the work is situated. The word “more” is painted into the glass, a reference to Amy’s first spoken word and to her final essay, You May Want to Marry My Husband.  The glass material allows sunlight and shadow to change the way the word appears on the umbrella and on the ground and reflects  Amy’s long interest in chance and serendipity. The umbrella form was designed by Space Haus.
